The Human Foot – Pain & Performance
Feet, love them or loathe them, they are the cornerstone of everyday movement and can be the key to unlocking your bad posture and pain. Anatomy in Motion (AiM) is a truly unique and powerful joint centred methodology whereby the movement of a joint elicits a muscular reaction. We can look at these movements more closely and determine if they are correct based on the gait cycle. We can fine tune the movements to get the desired pain free response creating much safer and stronger whole-body patterns.
How Does AiM Actually Work?
As you go through life, you in invariably pick up injuries or movement patterns based on situations your body finds itself in and these can affect your posture and become undesirable defaults that lead to pain. Using the Flow Motion Model we can quickly work out what moves in your body, and more importantly, what doesn’t move before working out why? This is the fundamental question as it presents us with the solution of how to make it move. Because all joint movement is set from the foot up, it makes sense to put a correction in here that will affect every other movement through the body.
Everybody loves this method as it allows them to gain a great insight into their own body, but more importantly, allows their own body to heal.

Posture and Feet?
Designed to be strong, mobile and adaptive with 26 bones and 33 joints, the human foot is a marvel of natural engineering. Unfortunately, when people look at pain in the body, often the last thing they consider is the foot and when it is thought about, the normal solution is to use orthotics that end up masking the problem rather than solving it. But, like the body, the foot can be trained to become the strong and capable base of support that allows the rest of your body relax, release pain and move freely.
Posture, Pain, Pronation & Supination
Pronation and Supination are the two states that the foot lives in and both are extremely important. Pronation is when the foot becomes wide flat and stable allowing you to load the skeletal structure and balance as you walk, run, jump or lift and is nothing to be feared despite sports shoe manufacturer claims. Supination is the opposite state where the foot is mostly very mobile and is often a transitional phase when walking allowing you to transfer weight and load throughout the gait cycle. From maximum supination to maximum pronation, the body has corresponding shapes that should be pain free (otherwise, what’s the point of evolution?) and Anatomy in Motion lets you reclaim those movements, better posture and less pain.
